Calligraphies by Wang Ning
„From nothing I come to this earth“ – with this sentence Wang Ning begins and ends a brush stroke which will decide the whole destiny of the character.
Wang Ning – calligrapher, seal cutter, translator, Taiji-teacher – has studied German language and literature in Beijing. Because of his vita, he is able to build bridges between Chinese and Western thought and feeling. For many years, he worked practically as well as philosophically and thus reached a degree of discipline and precision of leading the brush, which allows him to jot down artistic ideas immediately with just a few strokes.
Wang Ning paints the beauty and force of life with every brush stroke, while remaining in a calm state of meditation. Therefore, he is not only an artist, but also a philosopher and a poet.
This exhibition shows his calligraphic works for the first time after 20 years of absence. Let yourself be enticed by the different types of writing and their vivid phantasy. The exhibition can also be seen as an introduction into the world of the movement arts like Taijiquan and Qigong by means of ink and brush, manifesting a specific imagination of age and persistence as well as the longing for longevity and immortality, which is ubiquitous in Chinese culture.
