Tai Chi stepping 7 – Choose your direction freely! (Active stepping)
Active stepping:
👉🏼 Forget all stepping patterns that you might have memorised for practising leg mobility and partner forms.
👀 Adjust your foot position and the length of your steps to your intention. Free stepping follows the guidelines for movement you learned in the Tai Chi form, but it is not limited to a closed set of stepping techniques.
🧠👣 Train your brain: Systematically, when moving in free space, you can differentiate between 8 directions:
- Straight forward / forward left / forward right
- Straight backwards / backwards left / backwards right
- Stepping to both sides
Practice all eight directions until your foot movements become natural. – Don’t forget to train the brain connection to both legs!

⭐️ Congratulations! Now you are “free to go” – free to improvise with secure and intentional stepping!
Have fun moving around Tai Chi style!
