THE SWORD FINGERS – Tai Chi Sword 32

SWORD FINGERS

The Sword Fingers have multiple functions when practising Tai Chi sword:

  1. The Sword Fingers are used as a balance to the sword hand and to round out the posture, as in “Raise Hands”.
  2. As an energy backup, as is the left hand in “Ward Off Right”.
  3. To defensively contact the O’s sword hand, guard, or pommel (when offered), allowing us to effect a cut, or to knock the sword out of his hand if the O displays a loose grip.
  4. To startle or threaten the O, or to attack a weak spot.
  5. To control our tassel or grasp it in executing „Flying Phoenix“.
